Vitamins for Erectile Dysfunction

Erectile Dysfunction (ED) or impotency is experienced by 5% of men over 40. While there are numerous causes of ED such as medical, psychological, and physiological. One type of treatment for it is a vitamin-rich diet. These vitamins enhance blood flow all over the body, including the penis. Many vitamins are known to enhance erectile function and are considered safe to take.

Some vitamins below may have a role in treating ED:

Vitamin A: This vitamin is the best one for helping remedy erectile dysfunction. This is because it regulates the sex hormone, progesterone. It is instrumental in male ejaculation.

Vitamin B: Vitamin B is a highly reliable treatment for ED since it enhances the metabolism and decreases the risk of contracting pancreatic cancer, while enhancing cell manufacture and division.

Vitamin B Complex: This vitamin is needed for many functions including energy and protein metabolism, hormone function, blood circulation, healthy nerves and stamina.

Vitamin B1 (Thiamin): With Vitamin B1, the transmission of nerves and cellular energy are optimized all over the body and stamina and blood circulation improve. Thiamin can be found in pork, rice, beans, wheat and yeast.

Vitamin B3: A new study shows that a daily dose of niacin or vitamin B3 improves erectile function in men affected with high cholesterol. Niacin is found in chicken, fish and grains. The vitamin helps in processing the body fats. A typical dosage would be 25-50 mg daily.

Vitamin C: This is by far the best remedy for erectile dysfunction as it is responsible for manufacturing hormones related to sexual activity and fertility. It is instrumental in preventing scurvy, increasing sperm count, motility and for adding strength to the veins while also lowering blood cholesterol. It also enhances prostaglandin production which is closely related to a good sex drive. This vitamin usually recommended at 1000 mg. it should be taken 3 times a day. It corrects erectile dysfunction by reducing cholesterol content in the blood.

Vitamin E: Anyone suffering from E.D. should take a Vitamin E supplement as it is an antioxidant and also helps one get over any sex-related issues. It helps in production of sex hormones, which in turn improve attraction, desire and mood.

Zinc: This vitamin is found in the prostate gland and is required for its optimal functioning. The efficacy of zinc as treatment was tested in a study by scientists and it was found that zinc is a good treatment for those who suffer from ED due to chronic kidney disease (CKD).

L-Arginine: Some people call this amino acid the Viagra substitute for men. It boosts the amount of blood flow into the penis. The increased blood flow helps in a longer and stronger erection. Men can take L-Arginine in form of herbal pills.

At first, randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and quasi-RCTs of pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions used to treat sexual dysfunction in CKD patients were included. For the study, 352 subjects were chosen to find out if phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors (PDE5i), zinc, and Vitamins E and D can treat Erectile Dysfunction in patients of CKD. It was found that by giving oral zinc to subjects, testosterone levels grew. The researchers of this study concluded that PDE5i and zinc are good treatments for sexual dysfunction in male CKD patients.
